This weekend is JOTA (Jamboree-on-the-Air) weekend around the world. Thousands of scouts and hams will combine to talk scouting over the airwaves. This is an excellent opportunity to show off our fine hobby. If you have the time, get on the bands and make contacts with scout groups.
IRLP Node 7270 in South Hadley, MA will be temporarily moved to K1TTT's QTH in Peru, MA, for the coming JOTA weekend. I expect to have 7270 back, operational, in South Hadley by midday Sunday, October 21st.
BSA Venture Crew 510 will be demonstrating ham radio at the Great Trails Council, Appalachian Trail District Fall Camporee at the Dorothy Frances Rice Sanctuary, in Peru, MA. We will be running HF on the world scout frequencies:
80 m 3.690 & 3.940 MHz
40 m 7.190
20 m 14.290 MHz
15 m 21.360 MHz
REALITY CHECK: With low wires and the bottom of the sunspot cycle, we don't expect a lot of DX activity on the low bands.
The IRLP will give us an opportunity to WOW scouts at the camporee with contacts to many parts of the world.
