Not sure how many people have XM radio service but I know there are history
buffs here. XM 40's - Channel 4 - will begin broadcasting the original NBC
broadcasts heard on June 6, 1944 starting at 12:41 a.m. Eastern WAR Time
(EDT) and continue with broadcasts for 40 hours continuously covering minute
by minute the invasion.
Perhaps some of those who heard the original broadcasts or may have been in
Europe can shed some light on how they managed to do it all without the
satellite systems and high speed internet capabilities used today. I gather
these are not live from the front lines so much as teletype messages, or
perhaps I am wrong? I would not even know what part of which cycle we would
have been in so not sure if the BBC shortwave stations could have been heard
in the USA.
Sadly I cannot record from it too easily but I am sure someone in the club
has copies of the tapes. I think my dad had gotten copies of famous war
broadcasts on cassette tapes.
Might be a good Pow-Wow Net or meeting topic?
