Hi Tuc,
>From what you told us about your landlord, you have a tough one! But, that
said, even a dipole laying directly on the roof will pick up some signals,
more than you might think actually. There was a QST article a while back
were the author made a two-element 20-m beam by laying the wire for the
elements right over the peak of his roof. For HF, I would use RG-58 for
feedline or even TV twinlead.
Rusgrove and Hall published a thing about some neat antennas made from
300-ohm twinlead. They are standard folded-dipoles, center fed with 300-ohm
line. The neat part is that by placing the correct size capacitor across
the feedline at the correct point, you get a good match to 50 ohms. The
300-ohm line is easy to work with, fairly hard to see, if you can find the
light-colored stuff, and it's cheap (always a good thing :). These antennas
are single band and are intended for low power operation (less than 100 w).
They are written up in the Handbook a few years back. I'll find it for you
if you're interested.

George, KC1V

Hello all,
I have decided to hit the masses with this question since I want to put
the antenna up in the next 2 weeks or so.It will be used to listen only,
untill I can cough up the cash a transciever.
I live in an apartment with a flat roof and was thinking about puting a
wire ant up there. It is 45 ft x 45 ft.
Field day has really lit a fire under my butt.
Thanks in advance
Tuc
