[HCRA] Military Channel: Grenada

When the "uninitiated" hear the term "ham radio", they often get pictures of
a 40 year old tube radio with all these dials and meters and someone talking
all this weird 'X-ray' and 'oscar' to someone on the other side of the
planet. Even some folks in the military might be talking on HF on one of
the military allocations and think they are talking on ham radio.
As far as playing with the inductor knob while talking... Maybe he was
trying to get the SWR down as low as he could. Wouldn't want to do it that
way with a modern radio, but you might be able to get away with it on a tube
radio.

Well I am watching the Military Channel talk about the invasion of Grenada.
In discussing the medical students they mention they had a ham radio and
communicated with ciphers meant to cover the meaning of the transmission
(major no, no I know but given the option of death I will overlook it.) So
on the screen they show a kid talking into a D104 Mic and tuning the
inductor knob of an MFJ tuner (missed the model number).
So tell me, how well does your inductor knob help you talk when you are
adjusting it as you communicate? LOL
