Snow Melt and heavy rainfall causing pockets of urban and poor drainage

..SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton Will Commence at 8 PM Sunday
Evening through early Monday Morning to Closely Monitor The Threat of the
Strong to Damaging Winds and to a lesser extent, Urban and Poor Drainage
Flooding..

A Strong Storm and Cold Front will affect the region with a 6-8 hour of
period of heavy rain and the potential for strong to damaging winds
across portions of Southern New England. Currently, Wind Advisories are
now in effect for the East Slopes of the Berkshires to include Western
Franklin, Western Hampshire, and Western Hampden Counties, Worcester
County of Central Massachusetts, the Blue Hills of Eastern Norfolk
County, the South Coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island from 8 PM
Sunday Evening until 1 AM Monday Morning with a Wind Advisory for Cape
Cod and the Islands from 8 PM Sunday through 4 AM Monday.

As the heavy rainfall moves into the region, winds will be extremely
strong aloft and much of the strong winds extend as low as about 1,500
feet. Higher elevation locations as well as coastal areas will have the
best chance of seeing the strongest and possibly damaging winds. If the
heavy rainfall and showers along the cold front are structured enough,
they could send even stronger winds down to the surface in the advisory
area and possibly other locations. This will have to be monitored
closely. At this time, the areas under the Wind Advisory are expected to
see sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH and the Cape and
Islands could see gusts up to 55 MPH. There is a chance that stronger
winds and an upgrade to a High Wind Warning could occur in portions of
the advisory area, particularly Cape Cod and the Islands per the NWS
Taunton Area Forecast Discussion.

South coastal facing areas could face some minor splashover and beach
erosion for coastal flooding. This will also need to be monitored as the
strong winds move into the region.

A Flood Potential Outlook continues for portions of Southern New England.
With the mild temperatures over the region for the entire day and a 6-8
hour period of heavy rainfall expecting to total around 1” of rain with
higher amounts possible, urban and poor drainage areas could have issues
with flooding during the overnight hours. Storm drains should be cleared
of snow to allow for best drainage. Rivers and Streams are not expected
to be impacted with flooding though some rivers and streams in Southeast
Massachusetts will need monitoring.

Given the current potential for strong winds and a concern for possibly
stronger winds particularly on Cape Cod and the Islands, SKYWARN
Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton will be activated at 8 PM this evening
through early morning Monday to monitor this threat closely and we’ll
also monitor the urban and poor drainage flood threat. This will be the
last coordination message on this situation unless a significant change
to the forecast occurs. Below is the Wind Advisory Statement,
Hydrologic/Flood Potential Outlook and Hazardous Weather Outlook from NWS
Taunton:
