[HCRA] Re: World Record Wi-Fi Distance Link

However it still takes RF knowledge to make a 5GHz signal work on a several
hundred kilometer path consistently. I cannot say how stable that link will
be. Look at propagation for VHF and above between California and Hawaii. Its
a roughly 2,000 mile path and done with some regularity but certainly NOT
daily. Inversion due to weather events, rain, heavy snow, and the like will
beat on that path pretty good.

If you want to limit ham radio to a max of 300 ish baud on 14.070 go ahead
but frankly there is more to the radio spectrum than the bottom 30 MHz.
Perhaps an HCRA presentation from some of the microwave guys up there can
help shed light on this. I think a few guys in Amherst and Newington do
quite a bit up that high. They can explain it better.

I know that as far as digital modes up high (above 30MHz) we have people
looking at WiFi, DStar, P25 (Phase 1 and 2 at the least), as well as
traditional modes like packet. I have heard of some starting to explore
HDATV Fast Scan and Slow Scan. But wait its not SSB or CW so must not be ham
radio.

"Good point, Mike!" he said via his WiFi-connection laptop.
