All:

Next week we’ll try out the 6m activity night idea. No net, no formalities,
just an open forum. If you show up then you show up, if you don’t you don’t.
We’ll kick off at 7pm and keep it going as long as people want or 8 pm
whichever comes first. We’ll meet on 52.525 FM which, while not the most
efficient mode, is the one mode most people who have expressed interest seem
to have. Those of you who have base stations are asked to keep a good ear
open for weaker mobiles and handhelds. For those who have not operated in HF
or Simplex nets like this before it will be an adjustment from formalized
structured nets like Steve, W4FMD’s Wednesday Night Information Net. Be
patient, ID every 10 minutes (remember no prompt from the repeater there)
and keep a pause between transmissions to listen up for newcomers. Make sure
you lower your squelch down to the minimum and use vertical polarization.

I look forward to this a lot and it’ll be fun to find out who shows up and
what we can do here. I’ve posted this on an international 6m list and some
of our neighbors in the Tidewater (FM16) will be listening for us so who
knows who’ll show.

Oh yeah, don’t know your grid square? Check QRZ or ask on the net and
someone should be able to sort that out. There are on line grid square maps
available on line but it appears Fairfax and Loudoun counties are split
between grids in odd places.
