[HCRA] No Code

Dick, et al.

None of that will change. The press release is only
suggesting that there will be no code requirement for
the license, Morse Code will still have its alloted
exclusion area on each band and still be allowed
everywhere.

Also for those who are No Code there is confusion of
what you get if this press release is accurate.

You get:

All your current privileges on bands 50MHz and up

SSB on 28.3 - 28.5

Digital/Morse Code and/or other allowed transmission
types in the current Technician with Code allocations
on 10, 15, 40 and 80m

So if you wanted to try PSK, now you can. If you want
to try and do really slow code or use a computer to
send and receive code you can (just understand those
computers can't copy all fists accurately).

As for taking the General and Extra written now and
waiting for privileges when the R&O comes out that
might be ambitious. Nothing in the press release
clarified how those with a CSCE will be handled. The
boys in Rick's shop have the fun of helping sort that
out. I can't see why they would disallow those
upgrades, but I also wouldn't want to second guess the
Commission and get hopes up. I also imagine there will
have to be some hefty retooling of some of the
questions in the question pool.

As for the lack of discussion, just about every ham
radio related mailing list I am on is lit up like a
Christmas tree on the topic, Jim. LOL

Dick, come on down and visit Winterfest in Vienna, VA
and look me up. Should be in February towards the end
of the month at the Northern Virginia Community
College Campus in Annandale just off 495. Talk-in on
146.79 which is now 98% fixed (system balanced and
working nicely just have a couple pesky noises to
track down and one remote to install in the spring.)
:D Test sessions on Saturday and the hamfest Sunday.
