[HCRA] Saturday is the big day!

Jim, everybody

I have a "HiLift" jack and have used it on a few occasions. Picking up
trucks, pulling posts (one that I discovered to have been sunk in concrete)
and ground rods (one that I think I pounded thru a root) out the ground.
It'll do the job. However, it's weight and bulk might make for a rather
scary experience up on the tower. You're definitely going to want to hang
it from something to help position it. In the interest of safety, you might
want to find something else to do the job.

There are tools made specific for this purpose. I have heard of people
having luck with rope, 2x4's, and a bottle jack.

Sadly, I won't be able to make it. I do however wish you the best of luck.

Steve, N1NPC

Hi All,
I know this is short notice, but if you happen to be near 65 Hadley
Street, in South Hadley & are feeling like you'd like to help dissemble
a Rohn tower & windmill we are starting at 7 AM. The crane operator had
things to do and was watching the weather so he wants to do the deed at
7 AM. Not my choice.. We should be there a while... Can anyone tell me
the correct way of using a "HiLift" or Farm Jack to take apart the
tower. I bought the jack (thought it would do well on Field Day) but
there may be a trick I don't know on how to get it appart.
For a set of directions: Route 116 Go to the center of South Hadley
at the Commons and take 47 towards Northampton. About a mile or so you
should be near the above address on the right. If you're up north take 9
to the light at Aqua Vita (that's 47) and go towards South Hadley, look
for us on the Left. Feel free to just come and watch or Kibitz... If
you wake up and see it's past 6:30 and want to give me some welcome
advice my cell is 413 478 4403. I'll try to monitor 94.. also.
