Steve, (and all),
Good find and a well written article.
A good time to remind everyone about the BPL still going on in Feeding
Hills. This small area, starting from the High School and proceeding West on
Mill Street for about 1/2 is still interfering with amateur radio, WWV and
commercial broadcasting.
This test system has shown various levels of interference over the past
months. It started out creating interference from 40M through 10M, then
around February the ham bands were pretty clean. Presently there is
interference on 30M, as well as the commercial broadcast SW bands including
15 & 20 MHz WWV.
What we really need is interference complaints to be made on these bands. If
you happen to be operating mobile in the area and are subject to 'harmful
interference' please make the complaint to WMECO and the FCC. Unless the
utilities are made aware of the interference they think everything is OK.
The BPL manufactures are downplaying the interference potential of their
equipment. It's up to us to make sure any and all interference is reported.
If we appraise the utilities of the problems they may well decide that BPL
is not worth the investment if it creates unhappy customers. This is truly a
'test system', we need to be sure we are part of the test. With luck WMECO
will decide this test won't go any farther just a test.
Thanks & '73...
Jim, KK1W

I was reading slashdot today and found something interesting on May 17th.
Thought I might share it with the rest of you.

Kind of nice to see a non-ham site that says "BPL is a bad idea". I will
now step back and observe the BPL rants that are sure to follow ;)
