Jim,
Some R/C planes do use the ham bands, but to do so they must clearly
identify themselves and the frequency. Out of curiosity, I checked for
interference between the receiver in my plane and the remote control. None
of the HF bands, even 10m which should have caused the most problems, did
anything (at 100W). I realize that the further the receiver moves away from
the transmitter, interference might override the transmitter, but I think in
the case of field day, you should be fine. I used to do quite a lot of R/C
plane work, in fact I was a member of PVRCC and AMA. Never had any
interference issues.
