5:00 PM to dusk - come anytime during the period
Final Preparations, antenna and station locations and general planning Bring
some refreshments and we can send out for pizza if there is enough people.
Friday, June 24th, is Set-up Day
Join us at the Tavern Restaurant for lunch,
then off to Dufresne Park to begin set-up
Tavern Restaurant
25 Mill Street
Springfield, MA
or meet at the park at 2:00 PM
Friday afternoon is when we get the wire antenna supports up and the wires
pulled, construct the AB577 towers and assemble the beams. Around 5:30 some
of us break away to the VE session and return later in the evening. After
dark we will have refreshments and pizza and attempt to copy the ARRL FD
bulletin. Not a lot of pressure, we have all morning on Saturday to finish
the job. Saturday starts the food brigade with Andy cooking up breakfast,
lunch and of course 'spit roasted beef' for supper.
News Flash!
Look for Boy Scouts and R/C airplanes at Field Day this year. We expect
visits from local scouts (won't they have fun at the GOTA station) and
members of the Pioneer Valley Radio Control Club.
Look for the article about HCRA Field Day in the June 15th edition of the
Republican.
The ISS (International Space Station) may be on the air for FD! More info,
Click http://www.hcra.ofg/fd2005.htm and be transported to our Field Day
Planning site for 2005. As in the past we really have a super event planned.
Contest quality stations, scrumptious food, alternative mode demonstrations,
traffic handling, a GOTA station for beginners... We've got it ALL! So
please, make some time at the end of June to stop by beautiful Dufresne Park
in Granby, MA for lots of fun. You will be surprised at how many contacts
you can make (if you want to), the number of hams to chat with, the snacks
and food, you really can't go wrong.
Want to help, you can do that too. From setting up and tearing down
stations, operating, logging, cooking, eating (you can do that, right?),
message sending - it's all here and you can do any or all of the above. If
you want to be more than just a participant then contact any board member
and we will start you down a path to fun you won't believe.
New to amateur radio? Not a ham yet? That's not a problem either. Field Day
is under the control of an extra class operator and as such you can operate
stations without having the appropriate license or class of license. What
better way to get your feet wet on HF, maybe make some PSK-31 contacts or
even operate the solar station?
Convinced yet? I hope so and look forward to seeing you at Field Day, the
HCRA way, at the end of June.
Jim, KK1W
