[HCRA] a strange thing happened..

Hi, Jim and gang

If we didn't post the scores, the audience would storm the box office.
At any rate, it's a good exercise and an excellent way for (especially
newer) operators to get some "contesting-type" experience w/o having to
worry about the final score or their Q rate.

Re the RC stuff: I wouldn't think the IF filtering in those RC receivers
would be too hot--it becomes a weight factor--and it could be sorry
enough that RF just in the general vicinity of the operating frequency
could be an issue--and especially so if they're operating these things
on 6 meters with a 100 W transmitter running nearby.

Anyway, everybody have fun at FD! That's the important thing. And try
not to bring down those RC planes on someone's tent or camper.

Oh, and speaking of operating, is anyone in the market for an Icom
756PROII? I'll be putting mine on the market soon--it's 10 months old.
Took the plunge and upgraded to a PROIII. Lemme know. It won't be
available for a few weeks (maybe sooner), in part because we're going
away and because someone else has the radio at the moment.

Rick makes a few good points (darn, I said 'points' again)!

Yes, you do get the 100 points just for trying but isn't soo much better
to
actually get it printed. Makes it seem like the effort was worth it, and
virtually guarantees a few more visitors. Good job Jim.

And yes, it is not a contest. As such maybe the ARRL shouldn't post the
scores? That would push the 'competitive/aggressive' behavior right into
the
background.

Less than a week to go, see you at Dufresne!

Jim, KK1W

PS - We will be looking for you Rick - what bands are you planning on
working?

That's great to get the paper to actually run your FD publicity, but you
get
the 100 points just for sending it to the media. The media don't have to
actually use it. You just have to demonstrate a bona fide effort to
generate
publicity, that's all.

Remember, folks, this is not a contest. It's not about racking up
points.
It's about demonstrating that you can operate "in the wild," so to
speak,
and to have a great time--not to beat the club down the road.

Sorry I won't be there, but look for me QRP DL/N1RL.

Kewl!

We've already got 100 points and haven't even turned on a transmitter
yet!
This is the non-contest part of the FD scoring - lots of points, no
signals
but good PR.

Looks like your PR efforts are working fine Jim. Hopefully the article
will
attract a few of the 'curious' people and we get a chance to show off
our
stuff.

Now we need to get a copy of the article. Which paper was it in - Daily
News?

'73...

Jim

Jim,

I didn't notice that. Looks like we got our bonus points for press
coverage.
