WEST SPRINGFIELD - Joseph H. Dumais, 76, and Marilyn M. (Maher)
Dumais, 74, of West Springfield, and former longtime residents of the
Glenwood Section of Springfield, a loving couple blessed by 53 years of
marriage, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning after a motor vehicle accident
on Boston Rd., in Wilbraham. Joseph was born in Nyack, NY, the son of the
late Exanna J. and Eva M. (Roberts) Dumais. He was educated from the
Springfield School System and was a graduate of the former Trade High School
Class of 1948. As a student Joe was the manager of the Trade High School
Football Team. He was employed in the consumer loans department at the
former Third National Bank, Bank of New England, and Fleet Bank for over
fifteen years retiring in the early 1990's. Previously he was employed for
several years at Hamilton Standard Company of South Windsor, CT. Some of
Joseph's favorite pastimes included his passion as a ham radio operator and
his membership of the Mount Tom Repeaters Association, where his call sign
was WB1EMB. He was an avid golfer and former member of the Oxford Country
Club, Chicopee, an avid New York Giants Football fan, and a licensed pilot.
He leaves two loving sisters, Elaine R. Water house and her husband, Charles
of St. Petersburg, FL; and Jacqueline R. Waterman of Chicopee, as well as 2
nieces, 3 nephews, 12 grand nieces and grand nephews and 2 great grand
nieces. Marilyn was born in Springfield, the daughter of the late Joseph J.
and Emma A. (Guy) Maher. She was educated from the Springfield School System
and was a graduate of the former Classical High School Class of 1948.
Marilyn retired in 1993 as the branch manager from the former Buxton Credit
Union later named the Polish National Credit Union. Previously she held the
position as general manager and treasurer of the Buxton Employee Credit
Union. In all, her career with Buxton spanned over 45 years. She was a
member of the League of Women's Voters and the Sunshine Club at Buxton. She
leaves one loving sister, Beverly J. Carey and her husband, William B. Carey
of Lady Lake, FL; as well as 2 nieces, 1 nephew, 8 grand nieces and grand
nephews and 7 great grand nieces and great grand nephews. Services for
Marilyn and Joseph Dumais will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at
Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Rd., Springfield, with Rites of
Committal to follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, both in Springfield. Calling
hours at the funeral home will be Monday evening from 4-8 PM only and
contributions in their memory may be directed to St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
