Brief window opens to snag rare Desecheo Island (Dec 16, 2005) -- Two US
radio amateurs are now active from Desecheo Island (NA-095), but their stay
on the tiny Caribbean isle will be short. The Daily DX reports that Kam
Sirageldin, N3KS, and Dave Collingham, K3LP, received permission from the US
Fish and Wildlife Service to land on the island and operate. Sirageldin is
heading a communication project on Desecheo, so this is not a DXpedition,
and the pair will be on the air as their schedules permit. The Daily DX
reports they expect to be on the island for at least 48 hours but will not
remain there beyond 1000 UTC on December 19. They have been using N3KS/KP5
and K3LP/KP5 and are equipped for CW and SSB operation from 160 through 10
meters. Desecheo Island is on the Top 10 list of most-wanted DXCC entities.
QSL via W3ADC. More information is on The Daily DX Web site.
