Subject: Severe Weather Coordination Message #1
Message-ID: <002d01c440e7$498e44a0$6fd8accf at oemcomputer>
Hello to all....
....Isolated to Scattered Severe Thunderstorms Possible Across Western
Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut late this afternoon and tonight.
Eastern Areas Should Monitor this Threat for late tonight into the early
morning hours....
....Threat is contingent on heating into the upper 70's and any evidence
of
an upstream convective system or severe thunderstorms in New York State
moving east or east-southeast into Southern New England....
....SKYWARN Activation in some form is possible later today and tonight.
If
needed, Ops will be initiated at either NWS Taunton or the Southeast
Massachusetts Amateur Radio Association Club House under callsign
W1AEC....
After last night's convection, more thunderstorms are possible later
today
and tonight with damaging winds and large hail the primary threats.
Sunshine
has broken out over much of Southern New England and this will allow for
heating during the day. Thunderstorms will develop if temperatures can
reach
the upper 70's and some thunderstorms may produce damaging winds and
large
hail. In addition, any activity that can form in New York State will move
east or east-southeast into Southern New England and if enough heating
can
occur, these thunderstorms may also be severe. There have been boundaries
leftover from last night's convection and with enough heating, these
boundaries may serve to refire thunderstorms over the area.
The timeframe for this threat is from 5-10 PM over Western Massachusetts
and
Northwest CT. Eastern areas may also see the threat and it could occur
after
10 PM into the early morning hours similar to last night's event.
Spotters
and coordinators in eastern areas should monitor this situation. It is
not
clear how widespread this potential SKYWARN Activation will be. It may be
handled as a SKYWARN Self-Activation with possible Ops at the Southeast
Mass. ARA using club call-sign, W1AEC, or with Ops at NWS Taunton if its
widespread enough.
Another coordination message will be posted this evening if severe
weather
is not already active over the region. Pages will be sent thoughout the
day
to update the threat. Additional threats for severe weather could occur
during the next few days and coordination messages will be utilized to
update the most significant threats when needed.
Below is the Special Weather Statement from NWS Taunton concerning this

LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP LATE THIS

WHETHER SURFACE TEMPERATURES CAN REACH THE UPPER 70S ACROSS THESE
LOCATIONS. TEMPERATURES WARMING IN THE MID LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE
WILL KEEP THIS ACTIVITY FROM BECOMING MORE WIDESPREAD.
