Hi everyone,
The May edition of Zero Beat is now available for all to view (or download)
at: http://www.hcra.org/zerobeat/may04.pdf. John has done a nice job with
this issue so be sure to check it out. Articles about the Marathon, Titanic
and Field Day plus a brand new monthly contribution by Mike, KB1FWN. A great
issue, cool stuff and it's free! What more could you ask for?
Speaking of what more could you ask for, how about a free (or almost free)
2M HT? Got you interest, don't I? If so, read on. While at Hosstraders this
past Friday, Gary - AA1UE, found a deal on a bunch of Yaesu HT's. A little
bit of negotiation and the box of HT's was ours. Here is what we got:
Four (4) Yaesu FT-208R, 2 meter HT's
Four (4) Leather Cases
One (1) Desktop charger/power supply
One (instruction manual)
All the HT's have been tested and appear to work. The batteries are at best
questionable. These are synsythised, 10 channel, 2.5 watt units with a
digital display and a DTMF pad. The only thing lacking is CTCSS tones. Here
is my offer to you...
A. If anyone would like one or more to use for APRS, balloon launches or
something like that it is yours for free! The intention is the HT will be
used as an APRS tracker, WX broadcast station or ripped apart and put in a
balloon or other weird application that could potentially lose the unit!
B. If you want one for personal use as an HT, then it is yours for a $10
donation to HCRA. These units are in good physical condition and extremely
sturdy. Easily a good weapon to defend yourself with if need be!
I'll make copies of the manual for everyone. The desktop supply will be
given by me to whomever I feel deserves it most. I'll bring all the stuff
with me to the Friday meeting, first come - first serve. Thanks for your
support for both the hobby and HCRA.
Speaking of which, don't forget about the Friday meeting. It's less than a
week away, will have a neat presentation by John about the BSA Jamboree and
some Field Day planning. FD is coming up fast and we need your participation
to make it all happen. It's not necessary to do a lot, every little bit
makes a huge difference! Your participation in this event helps make HCRA
what is today - lets keep up the tradition.
Elections are just around the corner too and we need some new blood. Please
consider giving just a little of your precious time to your hobby and your
club. The feeling of accomplishment you will receive is more than worth the
investment of your time on the board.
'73 for now and see you Friday evening,
Jim, KK1W
