As co-chairmen for field day 2004, Peter KI1I and I would
like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those folks who
made the A.R.R.L. Field Day 2004 - done the H.C.R.A.
way - a resounding success.
Thanks to all those thinkers and planners for their sage
advice and prodding to get things done. Thanks to those
who were there for set up. Thanks to all those who spent
time operating especially the night owls who kept on
chugging far into the night and on past the dawn into the
final hours. Thanks to all those who broke down and packed
the equipment for transport to storage. Thanks to those
who donated equipment, food, beverages and coins of the
realm for field day use. Through the largess of one local
Ham, the club now has it's first all weather Operating
Station, the "FAB Mobile", an 18 foot Prowler vacation
trailer.
We had close to 60 licensed radio amateurs and over
over 50 guests on site at Defresne Park in beautiful
Granby, Massachusetts during the two day event. Many
of the guests were Cub Scouts or Webelos who came to
"Get on the Air", make a contact or two with an amateur
station hundreds, if not several thousand miles away and
earn a certificate for their participation in the GOTA program.
Some guests were licensed Techs getting their first intoxicating
taste of HF at one of the SSB phone stations. Now, they
are all fired up and committed to getting their General tickets
as soon as possible. A few were seasoned CW operators
who filled the gap and kept our CW stations at a competitive
level.
A special thanks to all ops. A quick scan of the contacts
made by our club and quest operators and a little application
of the earned multipliers for the various categories indicates
that we appear to have accumulated over the 9100 points
which was our goal for 2004.
So, Congratulations to all. We worked hard, played hard
but most of all, we had fun and proved once again that the
Amateur Radio Service is alive and well in Western
Massachusetts and ready to provide emergency communication.
And now we begin to plan for Field Day 2005. With that
thought in mind, an invitation to all to, please e-mail your
individual or group critique of this years event. This information
will be used to plan field day 2005. Have a safe and prosperous
summer. See you at the September meeting or maybe for a "rag
chew" some summer evening.
