Good Morning Folks,
As an avid "Ham" and Father of three, Grandfather of four, my
congratulations and a heartfelt thanks to John KX1X and all
those who give their time and good example to the youth of
America through Scouting and Amateur Radio. Please support
John and all those who contribute to his success by taking
time to click on http://www.arrl.org/members-only/qstvote.html?pidx=0
and give his article a vote. I just did. It was easy.
Another vote in support of John and your HCRA sponsored DX
crew is participation in HCRA Field Day. They are very
involved and totally committed to Field Day. There is less
than a week to go, but there is still time to contact Andy
KB1FVL with your reservations for meals and Peter KI1I or
myself with your commitment to help set up, operate or
breakdown, or all three. Have a great weekend and a fine
Fathers Day. See you at Defresne Park.

73,

Marty W1MJB

I know it's the weekend and you probably haven't looked closely at the
latest QST that just arrived. So, if the July issue is sitting in your shack
unopened, pick it up and turn to page 49. Don't ask why - just do it!

Starting on page #49 is a very nice two page article about Crew DX (Venture
Crew 510) and their adventures at the BSA MassJam in 2003. Written by the
crew's founder John, Kx1x, it is a very nice account not only of MassJam
itself but a history of Crew DX as well. John also points out the
relationship between the Crew and HCRA and the support our club has provided
the crew over the last few years.

After reading the article visit the ARRL's website (if you're a member) at:
http://www.arrl.org/members-only/qstvote.html?pidx=0 and vote for your
favorite article of the month. Maybe John will get some additional
recognition for his work!

Besides the obvious accomplishments of the Crew, this article points out
something else. One person or one club CAN make a difference. John's passion
for ham radio and scouting has combined to create a Venture Crew focused on
ham radio. Sort of completely dispels the myth that "kids of today ain't
interested in ham radio now that the internet has arrived", doesn't it?
Whether it's Kx1x's interest in BSA, Peter's focus on classroom training or
Marty's involvement in emergency communications HCRA members are constantly
proving we all can make a difference! My hats off to all of you for your
accomplishments!

And now - the obligatory FD advertisement...

There's less than 6 days to go before Field Day 2004 starts set-up in
Dufresne Park in Granby, MA. If you're not sure what to do next weekend,
this is certainly the answer. Still not sure, visit:
http://www.hcra.org/fd_2004.htm and read all about it. Can't make it, why
not work us from home and get a kewl QSL card for your effort?

If you are attending don't forget to let Andy know what delectable meals you
will be partaking so he can order the appropriate amount of food.

This year's FD promises to be the best ever. Expect to find seven HV
stations from 80 thru 10 meters, a GOTA (get on the air) station for
new-comers, new mode demonstrations, great food and super company. See you
there!
