Interoperability with Amateur Radio Emergency Communications January 14,
2004 -- 12:00 Noon Eastern Time

The EIIP is pleased to host a 'live chat' presentation and interactive Q&A
session, January 21st, 12:00 Noon Eastern (please convert to your local
time). Our topic will be how the traditional role of amateur radio support
for emergency communications is adapting to the age of interoperability.
This overview will include key organizations and recent examples as well.

Our guest Lloyd Colston, is well-rounded in both emergency management and
amateur radio, having come up through the ranks of the amateur radio
community, trained as a storm spotter, Emergency Medical Technician, EMT
instructor, emergency management volunteer, and EMA director. He is active
in a wide variety of organizations, and also serves as trainer, Public
Information Officer, and member of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team
(DMAT) in Oklahoma.

Our second guest will be Steve Ewald, Supervisor of the American Radio Relay
League (ARRL) Field Organization/Public Service Team at ARRL Headquarters in
Newington, Connecticut. Steve helps provide administrative support and
guidance to the ARRL Field Organization and the volunteer ARRL "Section
Leaders" across the country. He works with participants in the
ARRL-sponsored Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and other radio
amateurs that are involved in many facets of public service communications.

Please make plans to join us for this update on a valued service to
emergency managers and the public. See the Background Page for related
links, further biographical information, and instructions for participating
(especially if this will be your first time) - http://www.emforum.org . To
login, click on the "Chat Login' link and follow instructions.

This educational opportunity is brought to you by the Emergency Information
Infrastructure Partnership (EIIP). If interested in partnering with the
