I regret to inform everyone of yet another silent key in our ranks. Phil was
the guy you always saw at the hamfests selling the photocopied manuals and
some used boat anchor gear. He was at various times a member of HCRA and
MTARA. Phil was a nice fellow, always willing to help out a newbie and
forever trying to promote ham radio. He most certainly will be missed.

Philip J. Carpenter 1942-2004
BELCHERTOWN - Philip J. Carpenter, 62, of Westwood Drive died July 22. Born
in Springfield, May 28, 1942, he was the son of the late Gilbert J. and
Norma
F (Thayer) Carpenter and brother of the late Lucinda M. Carpenter. Philip
grew up in Springfield and received a degree in economics from the
University of
Massachusetts. He moved to Belchertown in 1974 and worked for Share Group
in
Amherst as a charity fund raiser for the past 13 years. Philip was a pet
lover and avid amateur radio operator, licensed as K1DFC and a life member
of the
ARRL. He is survived by a son Neil P. Carpenter of Washington, DC, a
brother
Richard N. Carpenter and family from Sterling, VA., and four of his best
friends, Monroe, Oscar, Hadley and Riley. Donations may be made in his
memory to
the MSPCA. Philip's remains were placed with those of his loving mother and
father at Oak Grove Cementery in Springfield. Beers & Story Funeral Home
has
been entrusted with the arrangemants. A memorial service is being planned
for
this September in the Belchertown area.
