John's done a great job on our September "welcome back" issue. It's chock
full of what's happened over the last few months and what's to come for HCRA
this new 2003/2004 season.

Try to make a point of attending our kickoff meeting this Friday, September
5th. Our guest speaker will be Dan Henderson, N1ND from the ARRL. Dan is the
contest branch manager at ARRL and will be talking about ham radio,
contesting and the new "Log book of the World", soon to make it's debut.

The Basketball Hall of Fame Special Event operation immediately follows on
Saturday & Sunday. Talk to Larry, WB1DBY if you would like to help out with
this event. Later in September is HCRA day at the Big-E. Norm, W1BMK would
like to hear from you. Wouldn't you like to spend some time having fun,
showing ham radio to the fairground crowd, and of course take a walk down
the food court!

Does it sound like there is a lot happening at HCRA? Well, there is and it's
all because of your active participation. Bring a friend to the next meeting
and let's continue to grow our club and our events. HCRA will be taking a
"non-scientific, non-binding" poll at the September meeting concerning both
your views of CW's place in the hobby and what direction you think our club
should be taking with our activities. And of course a great raffle prize at
our "kick-off" meeting. The prize is a Yaesu FT-2800, 2 meter mobile rig.
This 65W rig could be yours for the price of a one dollar raffle ticket.

Also enclosed in the printed copy of this month's Zero Beat, and available
on the website is the HCRA renewal application. September is when we start
our new year and the time to renew your membership. Why not do it early and
get it out of the way before the holidays get close and you just don't have
the time. As an added incentive, renew before the end of the October 3rd
meeting and get a chance to win an Icom 2 meter HT - just be signing up! So
print, fill out and either mail in or bring your application to the next
meeting. Our dues have not gone up and your $15 will support our club and
it's events for the coming year.

Thanks and enjoy this month's meeting,

Jim, KK1W
