Subject: New England Simplex Email Group and Database

Hi all,

I am looking to spread the word about an effort I am trying to accomplish

involving simplex frequencies on ham radio. In my position as Western MA
Director of NESMC (http://www.nesmc.org), the repeater coordination body
of
MA, RI, ME, and NH, I often get asked about simplex operations occurring
in
the area. Since there is no current database of simplex activity in New
England I have begun an effort to create one.

As you are aware, simplex activity has begun to increase with the
availability of Internet connected nodes like IRLP, EchoLink, etc. as
well
as the proliferation of simplex repeaters and remote bases. Many
emergency
nets are beginning to make use of simplex nets for contingency purposes.
My
goal is to create a database (covering all of New England) where simplex
users can VOLUNTARILY add their data to the database. By doing this they
can attract other users to their systems (if desired), provide
self-coordination of simplex activities to reduce interference, and to
provide contact information for interference resolution.

I would appreciate it greatly if you can disseminate this information to
your members and any other interested parties. By doing so it is my hope
that our bands will be more practical and enjoyable to use. Please feel
free to contact me for further information.
