To everyone who worked or visited the HCRA Field Day at Dufresne Park this
past weekend:
First, thank you for attending - it wouldn't have been the same without you!
I hope each and everyone of you found something that helped to invigorate
your interest in our hobby.
The weather was excellent, but propagation was poor and we had our share of
equipment and organizational failures. But I guess that's what this is all
about. Preparing to go out into the field and provide emergency
communications will always have a few 'stumbling blocks' along the way. The
important thing is to learn from our experiences and try not to repeat our
mistakes!
I'd would like to urge everyone that attended and is a member of this list
to send me your comments about the event. Positive or negative, good or bad,
send them along. If you feel something could have been better, send your
suggestions for improvement along with the comments. I would like to hear
from everyone; operators, construction crew, antenna crew, food,
publicity, --- you get the picture. Only by identifying our weaknessness can
we continue to improve. If you now of someone not on the list but has
comments, pass those along also. The more, the better.
Field Day has become a 'signature event' for HCRA over the last few years.
It's certainly grown, and along with that growth some areas have moved ahead
of others. Our equipment and antenna committment seems to have moved ahead
rapidly. Do public relations and 'ham radio good will' need a chance to
catch up? I don't know. It's your club, your event and we need to know what
you, as active members of HCRA, want for FD 2004. This is your chance to
have some input into FD 2004 planning. It's especially important to get your
input while everything is still fresh in your mind.
I've already received a few well written emails about FD2003 and look
forward to yours.
Thanks again to everyone that was there, in person or in spirit!
