As usual, you never know what to expect from the sun for these contests.
Predictions were for poor propagation for the entire contest. If you
believed these you would expect not to make any contacts!
Well, the band opened late, but by 8:30 Europe was rolling in. EU never
got really strong but the South American path was open all day until
after sunset. Almost all the US was workable at some time or other
during the day. All in all not a bad situation.
If you didn't have time to work the contest today you can probably
expect similar conditions tomorrow. Get your stuff done early and sit
out the impending storm inside working the contest. Both the A and K
index have slipped back a bit today so the bands will be a bit less
noisy tomorrow.
Will we make the same scores as last year? Probably not, although
conditions are OK they were much stronger last year, with EU open for
most of the day. Even so, with a little diligence you should be able to
make a respectable store.
Towards the end of the day today I worked a few New Zealand stations, so
there is still some good DX to be had.
Have fun tomorrow, stay out of the snow and don't forget to send in
those logs!
