Greetings All,
The HCRA is proud of its great tradition of assisting hams interested in =
getting into the hobby. Jim mentioned in the Zero Beat, President's =
Corner that the HCRA is going to sponsor a Technician Class course =
sometime in the beginning of the new year (2003). I am pleased and =
excited to organize this course for the HCRA. I look forward to working =
with any and all members who are interested in helping out in any way. =
Members need to communicate with me to let me know how they are willing =
to help. Bringing new hams into our community of hams can be exciting =
and rewarding. The greatest reward (in my opinion) is the feeling of =
accomplishment at the end of the course seeing many new hams =
successfully challenge the license exam. You could be part of this =
process.
Having one or two people teaching the entire course is one way to =
accomplish the task. This usually puts undue stress on the individuals =
teaching the course. I would like to try a different approach. I once =
attended a basic boating class offered by the Aux. Coast Guard. Each =
night that the class met, there were different people up in front of the =
group presenting a subject that those individuals felt comfortable with. =
I believe that the variety of different instructors added nicely to the =
atmosphere of the classes because of the varied approach by each one. =
Another thing that happened among the instructors is that each one was =
fresh and not tired by the long process in the many hours of instruction =
necessary to produce competent students by the end of the course. =
Another thing that I saw happen is that people who were willing to give =
a small amount of time were more willing to participate compared to the =
usual process of difficulty in finding instructors. Those same people =
were more willing to participate in other training courses because it =
wasn't a huge time commitment. Instructors also got to teach the parts =
that interested them more. I would like to see the HCRA do more than =
one presentation of this class. With multiple instructors, this would =
be more likely to happen.
I am in the process of putting together a list of topics and the amount =
of time for instruction required for each topic. I will publish the =
list and look for instructors for each topic. I anticipate between two =
or three instructors per class meeting (if the meetings are two or three =
hours each). My goal is to run the class over 8 weeks or less. The =
details have not taken shape yet and I am working on it currently. =20
If you are interested in teaching in this course then please get an =
e-mail off to me ASAP. A number of people have already indicated a =
willingness to teach. So that I don't leave anybody out of the =
planning, send me an e-mail even if you have already indicated to me =
that you are interested in person. This is an exciting undertaking and =
I hope to get many of our members involved.
