After a few weeks of struggling with a minor radio software problem, the
gremlins have been expunged! As of tonight, IRLP Node #727 is on the air,
running it's full 60 Watts of power and operating correctly!
If you live in a 5 - 15 mile radius of South Hadley, get it a try. How well
you will be able to work the node will depend greatly on your location,
height, power and antenna. Most base stations should easily work it within a
ten mile radius.
Frequency is 146.46 MHz, PL of 114.8 and your good to go. You will need a
touchtone (DTMF) microphone or pad to link to distant nodes. Full
information can be found on the HCRA web site at:
http://www.hcra.org/irlp.htm
The HCRA IRLP node is an 'open' node, operating 24/7. This means 'you' have
control of the node when it's not in use and will be able to link to any
active node in the world. Just think, in a few short minutes you can connect
to Antarctica, Australia or England for a short QSO, all from your shack on
2 meters! Remember to use proper amateur practice while using the node and
be courteous and disconnect the remote node when you are finished. The IRLP
node is open to all amateurs within it's range, you need not be a member to
enjoy the service. We encourage everyone to give it a try. Of course, if you
like what you hear, come to the next meeting and join up! More information
about HCRA can be obtained at: http://www.hcra.org. Any questions regarding
the node or use of it should be directed to either John, Kx1x
([email protected]) or myself ([email protected]).
Attend the next regular HCRA meeting on June 7th for a full presentation of
the node, how to use it and proper operating practices. Also at the June 7th
meeting will be our 2nd Annual Tail Gate Party, 2002/2003 elections and a
demonstration of WriteLog, the software we will be using for FD this year.
HCRA, the fun amateur radio club in the Pioneer Valley.
I hope to see everyone on Friday, June 7th. Until then - '73...
