To all HCRA list members,
Everyone should have received a message today giving you the new list
address and a password. Don't be alarmed, nothing critical has happened!
Like everything else, change is inevitable!
Our list host, Al Waller, has changed software from the old "majordomo" to a
new package called "mailman". In addition to providing an easier, web based,
interface for users it also will allow less chances for spam and other
uglies to creep in. The web interface will allow every user to modify their
list settings easily, without having to know any arcane "text commands" via
email for list settings.
The password you are given is ONLY for the list and is not secure. If you
change it, don't use your valuable passwords (like you ATM one!). The only
reason for the password is to limit spammers and email harvesters from
gathering info from the list.
If you have any questions about the changes, drop me a line and I'll try to
help out. This is new to me also, so we can learn together!
Presently we have 59 list members - quite a good size group for our little
club. Let's make the best use we can from this valuable resource. With Field
Day just around the corner I expect the list will get quite a bit of use
real soon.
Also, if you have the time check out our club listing at the Force12 web
site. They did a nice job (hopefully the spelling is corrected by the time
you get there!).
