Just a quick update on what's happening at HCRA the past few weeks.
IRLP
****
This project is just about complete. All components of the link have been
purchased, received, modified and are close to installation. I would expect
the HCRA will be on the air with an IRLP link in less than two weeks. In the
meantime you can have fun working the eQSO link on the same frequency
(usually available nights and weekends). It's been fun and active. The eQSO
link will not be active this weekend (April 27-28) because the PC running
eQSO is needed elsewhere. When IRLP is activated it will be on a different
machine and will be up 24/7.
We are working on some operating tips for IRLP when it becomes active and
will publish them in ZB and on the web. Until then if you want to do some
homework here's a few websites to check out:
The IRLP home page is at: http://www.irlp.org
A good operating tips page is at: http://www.kwarc.org/irlp/
Frequency to use for eQSO (soon to be IRLP)
146.46 MHz, simplex, PL 114.8
Have fun!
Next Meeting
************
This coming Friday, May 3rd is the next regular HCRA meeting. Our guest
speaker will be Chuck Wyrick, manager of the HRO outlet in Salem, NH. Chuck
has been both been in the business and an active ham for many years. Expect
a great presentation, including some insight into where the hobby (and
associated toys) is going, what to expect in a few weeks at Dayton, and I'm
sure some good stories to boot. Chuck has visited us in the past and we look
forward to hosting him again this month.
As always, in addition to Chuck's presentation you can expect coffee &
donuts, neat raffle prizes and the camaraderie of all your fellow hams. Tell
you friends, invite them to the meeting. Everyone is welcome, member or
nonmember! I hope everyone can make this one.
June Elections
**************
Elections for 2002/2003 are just around the corner. We are accepting
nominations from anyone for any position, so if you feel it's your time to
guide the HCRA in a new or better direction.... Now's the time! Contact any
board member and let's get the process rolling. Don't miss your chance to
help the HCRA grow in the coming years.
Field Day, the HCRA way
***********************
Field Day planning is going great guns! Check the web page for the latest
information on the event http://www.hcra.org/field_day.htm. Does that mean
we don't need your help? Not at all, the fun of the event is the
participation of everyone, no matter how much or how little. This is your
club and your Field Day. If you just want to stop by for 20 minutes, have a
burger and shoot the breeze, that's just as important as operating non-stop
for 24 hours. It's what you want it to be, and judging from last year it's
everything you've wanted it to be. Thanks in advance for your participation!
HCRA Mailing List Changes
*************************
I've made a small change to the mailing list (this list). Now, when you
click "reply" on a list message it will go to the person posting the
message, not back to the list. If you feel both the original poster and the
list will benefit from your response, then add the list in the CC field and
both will get it. I made this change to reduce the "noise" on the list from
posts that were better left between the individual parties. Also, if the
list traffic is too busy on a daily basis you can always go to the list
management page and change your membership to digest mode. Then you will
only get one message a day from the list, with all the individual messages
contained inside of it.
