This morning at 0724 UT the first Cycle 25 M-class Flare occurred. It
was a M1.2 flare at a latitude of approximately 30 degrees North. The
flare occurred on the backside near the limb. By this afternoon the
sunspot group could be seen as thin white and black lines in the upper
left corner of the magnetogram. It was followed by C9.4 and C1.1 flares
at 1046 and 1422 UT respectively. Loops form this active area can be
seen above the sun's limb in images at UV wavelengths. This flare is
unlikely to have any real impact on HF propagation but is a sign of a
more active sun. There may be slight increases in the 10.7 cm solar
flux as the group moves across the sun.
