Norman Riggsby K5LYO (age 94) is a survivor of Omaha Beach on D-Day.
Norman landed on Omaha Beach at approximately 7 AM, June 6th 1944. He
earned two purple hearts for that morning and later during the battle.
The first was for injuries sustained morning of D Day on Omaha Beach.
His second Purple Heart was for injuries sustained from being blown up
by a German tiger tank. He actually spent several weeks in a coma after
the tank blast.
The French government on November 10th, 2018 presented Norman Riggsby
with the Legion of Honour, France's highest distinction. "This is the
most commendable example of bravery and trust in humanity and those
universal values that unite us" according to Alex Andres, French Consul
General. The ceremony took place on the steps of the Texas State
Capitol. For this honor Norman Riggsby has been appointed the rank of
knight. Sir Norman as he is now known has lived a full, adventurous and
storied life.
Unfortunately this past July, Sir Norman took a fall on his property in
Medina Texas. As a result of the fall, he is yet to recover fully. Today
he resides at a nursing center in Kerrville Texas. The holidays can be a
challenging time for some. This year the holidays will be especially
challenging for Sir Norman Riggsby. I'm asking for a little help from a
few friends and family members this holiday season.
Attached below is Sir Norman's mailing address at the facility in
Kerrville. If you have a few moments of your time and would like to make
the season much better for this hero, please send him a card and or a
note. It will be greatly appreciated. Also if you were to be in the
Kerrville Texas area, the nursing center is just off of Interstate 10
and Highway 16. He always welcomes visitors and your time spent with him
will be a blessing not just for him, but for yourself. Additionally if
you feel led to do so, please share this email with others who may
desire to do the same. Thank You...
He LOVES to talk HAM RADIO
God Bless & Merry Christmas
