Wise Choice Fred...

Mint is a good choice, as is any Debian distro.

BTW:  Tried the RTL dongles, AirSpy, HackRF, and LimeSDR
all on Linux and had little problems getting any to work.
(yeah, in a few cases, had to do more work as compared to
a "Mind-less" Windows install.)  In the end it was worth it, for
not much effort.
