Good morning HCARC.
I learned Morse Code at Fort Ord, CA in the Radio Operator (05B) course.
I went on to the Radio Teletype Operator course to earn my primary MOS of 05C
at Fort Gordon, GA. This was back in 1966, O5B20 then became my secondary MOS.
Nineteen sixty seven and sixty nine found me in the 337th Radio Research
Company supporting the 1st Infantry Division in the "Iron Triangle" Tactical
Area of South Vietnam. Between those two tours I was stationed at Headquarters
Army Security Agency, Arlington Hall, VA, filling a 72B20, Communications
Center Specialist slot. After 3 yrs, 7 mos, I Was released from active duty on
3DEC69. I never got to operationally utilize my Morse skills of sending/receiving
15 five character code groups per minute, although I did Operate a lot of radio
and communication gear.
My Navy career began in 1977 and ran through 17 years when I retired with 20 yrs
active service in 1994. During that time I served as an Aviation Electronics
Technician. Thank you all for allowing me to share this personal info in this forum.
