Thanks to K5HV for posting the sad news re Harvey West, AK5M.

 

AK5M was a major participant in the Club when I arrived in 1989. Among other
contributions, he had arranged several grants of significant amounts of
money for the Club from his former employer, Exxon. 

 

I talked with him on the phone last year and he wasn't doing well then.

 

According to the Daily Times, he was 96.

Long time, and probably, original Club Member, Harvey O. West, AK5M, passed
away Sunday April 2 at home.

Services are pending at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

In one of the first Club meetings I ever attended, in about 1994, Bob
Nelson, N5EW, then WD9HSE, was elected President.  As was the custom then,
the former President, Harvey West, immediately sat down and the new
President had to carry on with the meeting.

I thought that was unique.

That was when we were meeting in the garage apartment building behind the
Kerr Regional History Center on Water Street.
