I remove them depending on how many quills and how calm the dog is.  In this 
case quills were in the mouth, tongue, as well as the nose.  Without 
sedation it was too much for me.

Just an FYI.  If you cut the end off the quills, they are hollow.  This
makes it easier to remove them.  I wish I didn't know that LOL.
