[HCARC] US ISLANDS AWARDS PROGRAM Annual Contest

The US ISLANDS AWARDS PROGRAM Annual Contest occurs starting at 1200 UTC on the 29th of August.  Several of us have committed to activating Tranquility Island (near Louise Hays Park) that day.  If you are interested in joining us let either myself or Bob Richie know.  Bob will be checking out what approvals we need from the Kerrville Parks people on Monday.  Hopefully they won’t mind us running a small generator to power the radios.  I can see us running one to  two stations using either the club call (N5HR) or a Special Event call such as K5I (Kilo 5 Islands) or K5T (Kilo 5 Tranquility).  We might like a good photo taken of the event to make into QSL Cards.  I have a computer program which will merge the QSL info and photo into a 4x6 postcard to be printed on a color laser printer.  Tranquility Island although down at river level has numerous really tall Cypress trees to use to support off center fed dipoles, or we might want to put up a HexBeam on the club tower trailer IF we can get permission to bring it into the island.
