For those of you who utilize LoTW I discovered something recently pointed out by another ham.

When I first set up LoTW I printed out about 20 pages of instructions and checked off each one as I completed it. I set it up in 2009.

As mentioned, I received an email from a ham telling me when he attempted to determine my state, grid square, county etc. on LoTW he couldn’t find it. I noticed all of his QSOs with me were after 2012. Furthermore, when I went on LoTW to check my Certificate it said good 2012-11-30 thru 2015-11-30. It was at this point I remembered I had renewed my TQSL Certificate in 2012. Apparently they are good for three years.

Based on an email from ARRL, I opened my tqsl.exe file and found no data to be present for state, county, grid square etc. I was certain I had originally filled out all of the information. I don’t know for sure but I suspect when I renewed the TQSL certificate all of the values mentioned went to default and I’ve been uploading logs for two years without the data required to help hams acquire WAS and WPX awards.

So bottom line, if you have renewed your Certificate I suggest you open your tqsl.exe file and edit the location data to see if it is present. I’d be interested in what you find. It may have been in an instruction and I failed to reset the data but now I’m curious what others find.

Once the data was reset I simply uploaded my log again and all the data is now present, verified by W9RF, a very persistent and helpful ham who not only brought this to my attention but helped me to get it resolved.
