[HCARC] Tour de Cure bike ride Austin to Fredericksburg

Leaving on Saturday morning, 9/12, from western side of Austin (Oak Hills area, Freescale Mfg complex) and riding 90 miles west via various types of back roads thru the Blanco area and beyond to Jellystone Park in Fredericksburg. I've not seen the exact route yet, but know the Spring flooding wiped out a bridge or two forcing a route change.

Spend the night at Jellystone and reverse the route on Sunday.

So far, only a few hundred riders have registered for the 2-Day ride. They will have some shorter (circular) routes available on Sunday that start / finish at the Freescale property in Oak Hill as well.

The biggest (ham) safety concern was trying to establish communications along the route. Portable repeaters may be needed to fill gaps, if that's possible. We've reached out to the Highland Lakes ARC in Marble Falls since they have that sort of portable capability.

This could be a good test of the ability to create ham communication abilities in a disaster area, something most clubs are not equipped to do. We rely on established repeaters quite a lot these days.

Where are the details of this Ride?
There's no repeater in FBG anymore, so he will need a portable.

George,
Yes, I'm going to need some contacts & possible repeater trustees in that
area for comms. Sure would be good to get a group to handle some rest stops
& Day-1 Finish/Day-2 Start to & from Fredericksburg. Any ideas?

I could also place my trailer & 40' mast with a portable repeater/crossband
somewhere on high ground if needed.
