[HCARC] QST April Fools

Well since there are three (at least) Bogus articles in the April 2014 QST,
and since I don't have an in depth enough knowledge of radio electronics to
readily separate the good from the bull (tuff when your degrees are in
Microbiology) I will assume that most of the articles are bogus, because
there appears to be a lot of Bogus Bull in most of them. Sure seems like a
waste of paper to me. Maybe I fail to see the humor and how it furthers the
understanding of Ham Radio, especially for those trying to learn. It is
very much akin to the Question of "why do we do things the way they are
done" - Answer "because that’s the way we have always done them." Seldom is
it thought "there just might be a better way to do them, or maybe we have
been doing them wrong all along".

I guess I am just frustrated in not having enough time to do all the things
I need to do and this months QST just seems such an additional waste of
time. Does CQ magazine partake of such too?? Just want to know if I should
just pitch it in the garbage when it arrives too. Maybe ARRL will only
charge me for 11 editions vs 12.

That tradition goes back the earliest days of radio and electronics in other
publications too. I remember one in Radio-Electronics magazine, I think,
about a do it yourself vacuum tube.
Beware of that infamous writer, Larson E. Rapp.

“April Fool’s” Tradition Continues in QST Although April Fool’s Day is still
a few weeks away, the April issue of QST is in the mail (and available now
in digital form) with several pranks in store for readers.
“April Fool’s pranks are well-established traditions in the publishing
world, and QST magazine is no exception,” said QST Editor in Chief Steve
Ford, WB8IMY. “The April Fool’s tradition in QST goes back decades. Search
the old issues and you’ll find some very clever items.”The April 2014 issue
of QST contains three April Fool’s pieces, according to Ford. “Some are more
obvious than others. We’ll be curious to see how many readers spot the
jokes.”

The first one I have found is Page 45 – the article about some wonderful new
COAX called MONAX. Oh if it were only true!!!
