I one of these coming days will be buying one of Dr Jim’s 53 foot Hy-Gain Hy-Tower AV-18HT antennas. As a vertical antenna it has no directivity. I have a really small diameter (if you can conceive of a 3 legged triangular tower as having a diameter, but it gets the image across) that is 20 feet long and can easily support a mast section above it. If this “Tower” were erected the right distance from the AV-18HT would it act as a reflector?? Does it need to be connected electrically to the AV-18HT to act as a reflector?? I assume the right distance is dependent upon wavelength desired. Does the reflector have to be absolutely identical to the driven antenna?? Would a 30 foot steel pipe 2 inches in diameter also act as a director on one or more frequencies of the tower??
For Robert Russell – Having dogs I am glad that the critters that dig up my flower and veggie beds looking for grubs are the armored kind vs the black and white striped variety.
W1AW/0 was on 20 meters about 2345 Z last night. I now have Nebraska in the log.
