Harvey,

There were actually 3 things going on.  Last spring, Eddie over at NWS in the Austin/San Antonio area was trying to find a way to get radio communications between NWS and Kerrville area.  Remember we tried 40 m after the net one night.  The second one was T erry trying to cover the area for the Red Cross.  The third one was Gary talking about K4DG having a course on constructing broadband 80 m antennas and if several were made sending them out ot adjacent counties during Field Day.

The 60 meter frequencies have a couple problems.  One being the limited number of radios that include 60 m.  The second being the limited number of frequencies available, I think 5.  And third, 60 m isn't low enough in frequency for night time use, especially when we're not near solar max.   I think 80/75 m is the right answer but we n eed some data.  For the last 6 months I've been trying to keep track of the close in stations I work.  That's what I sent out earlier.  With that for a start we need to figure out what we really want to do.

I loved your LPF story.  Here I thought the only thing that couls damage your station was a lightning strike!  Looks like operator error may be  as powerful as lightning.

Kerry
