HILL COUNTRY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

Meeting Minutes

3 April 2014

MEETING COMMENCEMENT

The meeting was called to order by President Terry Hipskind (W0HIP) who led us in the Pledge Of Allegiance.  There were 38 people in attendance including two guests; Patty Pullen guest of Gary Johnson (N5BAA) and Tony Moore (KG5AAO) and Mike Averity.

MEMBER AND GUEST RECOGNITION

President Hipskind explained the 50/50 and gave out tickets to the following people for having helped during the past months:  Kerry Sandstrom (K5KS) who helped Terry Hipskind  with electrical line problems, Chuck Brainard (KA1PM) who helped Gale Heise (KM4DR) with his new tower, and Bob Ritchie (K5YB) who helped Gale Heise with his tower.   

MINUTES AND TREASURERS REPORT

The minutes were read and approved with the correction of Bill Tynans call from K3XO to the proper W3XO.  Sorry Bill!!

The Treasures report was read and approved

OLD BUSINESS

Repeater Committee:  Chuck Brainard  and Harvey Vordenbaum (K5HV) have been working on the repeater.

VE Committee:  Next Test at the end of Dale Gaudiers Tech Classes in mid April.

NEW BUSINESS

Gale Heise (KM4DR) indicated he would be listing a large amount of used equipment on the Reflector and then on EBAY.

Bill Tynan indicated a new repeater he has put up for 900 mhz is on line.  Easiest access is via an Alinco 900 mhz HT.

Beginning CW class to start in Mid April.  Remaining class schedule as follows:



Gary Johnson reminded everyone that Field Day is less than 2 Months out.  We need to start planning very soon to secure a location.  To date we haven’t even chosen a location!!!

Remaining schedule of 2014 programs are as follows:

May – 80 meter Wide Band Dipole by Dale Gaudier (K4DG)
June – Gary Johnson on Field Day
July – Gary Johnson Field Day Report

BREAK FOR REFRESHMENTS FROM Mort McKenzie (WB2GEU) and Barb and Pete Schuyler (N9NM, N9OF respectively)

The Presentation was by Kerry Sandstrom where he discussed in depth the effects of the sun on the earths magnetic field and the ionosphere.  Knowing about what the sun is doing and how it will affect the magnetic field and Ionosphere helps Ham Operators to predict what conditions should be like on our frequencies.

50/50 was won by Barb Schuyler who donated her winnings to the Charles Pharris Memorial Fund ($58.00 split - $29.00 to each)
