Greetings list,
For those of you who didn't know, Dale Gaudier / K4DG is currently putting a
Morse Code class on Saturdays, titled "CW University". If you really want to
learn Morse as it is possibly one of the most time honored languages used in
Ham Radio and has many years of history behind it and last but not least -
Very reliable! Then come on down to the HCARC meeting building // Red Cross
next Saturday for class number 2, check out the url I posted below and you
can rest assured you will be caught up.
At any rate, Dale has had his first class this past Saturday (19 Apr.) and
it was really fun.
For those of you who are unable to get to a class, may I suggest this url I
received from Dale on a handout:
http://www.pdarrl.org/K6RAU/
It is 12 lessons on .mp3 format that you can download and use at your
convenience, I have found this to be so valuable, and it is a very easy way
to learn or sharpen your skills.
>From the website:
"One does not have to know a "dit" from a "dah" -- just with paper & pencil
in hand, follow the voice instructions. The narrator is Fred/K6DUU (now sk),
father of K6RAU. The course was first broadcast on 160 meters to local
Merced/Modesto area Boy Scouts listening on converted music radios. In the
1970's through mid 1990's it was transmitted on 75 meters by K6RAU."
Finally for those of you Storm spotting / SKYWARN / CoCoRaHS observing / NWS
Observer Point of Contact, you are doing your community and region a great
benefit as I hope everyone who has the ability or desire to not fear but
instead join the ranks of those of us who enjoy feeling they are committing
themselves to volunteer for our Nation in one aspect or another.
I am committed to being the Net Operator for the monthly (as of now) SKYWARN
on 2 meters net. Also I storm spott for NWS San Angelo and NWS San Antonio /
Austin. CoCoRaHS is pretty easy and the Storm Spotter network is fun as
well. ARES and MARS, I have that covered also. All are very rewarding and
fun.
I am also now friends with Cary Allen Burgess a.k.a. Dr. Doppler for the
Hill Country. So I am getting myself immersed in the Weather scene at a good
pace.
Feel free to contact me either via list or off list as you desire, if you
have any questions or just want to hang out.
Regards,
Johnny & Josh Fotschky
