It soon will be October and it was about this time last year when Gale Heise KM4DR took me aside and inquired whether I had interest in running for the Secretary position for 2013. I told Gale that I would - little did I know that there would be no other nominees. A couple of months ago Bob Ritchie asked me if I wold be interested in taking over his position writing the STATIC. I told him yes, but only if I someone would take over as Secretary. After last meetings discussion of the website manager, Frank Edwards KK5IA volunteered to become the website manager for the remainder of the year. Emailing back and forth with Ron Drumheller K3NXF over the last few days about the job as website manager, he may be going to train two of us in how to manage the website - especially since I am probably going to purchase the same website generation program he uses for the club, to develop a webite for myself - TexasRedSheepRadio.com. Having two people trained in how to maintain the website is good backup anyway, and if Frank decides after the first of the year to step down as Website manager, I can then take it over from him. I guess if you run the website and write the Static, the only person you can complain about for not getting the Static done on time is yourself.

For the new(er) people in the club - holding one of the Club Officer positions is the single best way I know of to learn the names and calls of the other members of the club. It also allows you to either Pay Back or Pay in Advance for the help that other more experienced Hams / Club Members have provided to you. Think about serving as a club officer - to have a viable club requires that we have people who are willing to serve. Even if you are uncomfortable speaking in front of the group, just remember that everyone sitting in the audience is glad that it is you in front of the group - not them. Because of that, they are VERY FORGIVING of any mistakes you might make.

Think About Serving - we have only one more meeting before we hold elections in November - as there is usually no meeting in December when the meeting is usually the Christmas Party. Speaking of the Christmas Party - it's getting to be that time again for planning it. My vote would be for Marilyn Vordenbaum to be the Christmas Party ChairYL again. Do I hear a second??? All in favor ...........
