[HCARC] Ground Braid

Much of the tinned copper ground strap available on Ebay is really tubular braid that when flattened measures 1 inch across, but is really composed of the physical equivalent of two attached pieces of 1 inch braid.  Since the current runs supposedly on the outside of the copper, would this in effect be almost the equivalent of 2 inch wide braid??  It would be 2 inches wide if you were to cut it down one side and run a bead of solder on the cut sides to keep it from coming unbraided.
