In my preps for getting a new computer one of these days, I have been doing some reading and have discovered the book written by David Pogue called - "Windows 8 - the missing manual" (The book that should have been in the box). So far I have discovered that Wondows 8 won't be all that bad and in fact has some things like built in Malware prevention programs (what a concept - at long last). What I have discovered is to use Windows 8 - GET A TOUCHSCREEN MONITOR. Windows 8 is really two separate operating systems, joined at the hip. There is the touchscreen part (Pogue calls it TileWorld - think Android here) and a much more complex / improved Windows 7 which operates using a mouse and keyboard. You have to use both however, and navigating TileWorld with a mouse IS GOING TO BE CUMBERSOME.
All the above said, Windows 8 seems to be here to stay and I for one have decided to embrace it rather than fight it. Sort of like Tubes - what tubes, my radio doesn't have no tubes. Or is it the same frustration over radios with menus vs buttons, switches and knobs??? Fight or embrace - your choice.
Buy the Widows 8 book by David Pogue - it's well worth your money. He is an easy to read author who is exceptional at explaining things and I suspect even easier to read if you actually have a Windows 8 computer in front of you.
What is scary is wondering which if any of the logging / contesting software is compatible with Windows 8, and is it just compatible or does it embrace Windows 8's capabilities??
