[HCARC] 2013 Borger Field Day

Looking at the call signs of those that attended in Borger, TX, they did a 
much better job of turning out newly licensed Hams (KF5U--) than we did.  In 
fact the newly licensed hams from the Preppers group as a group had a pretty 
miserable turnout, Kevin being the exception (JOKE:  He had to come - he may 
become a new neighbor to me in Pecan Valley).  Notable new attendees were 
Ray Owen and his family (watch out Ray, your wife seems mighty interested in 
what we were doing - in fact she insisted they come back to field day after 
they had originally left - that's a keeper for an XYL).  John and Josh 
Luttrell also were prominent attendees also, pitching in whereever and 
whenever needed - and they are still studying for their licenses.  About 6-7 
other recent new licenscees were however noticably absent - their loss in 
that they missed out on experience on the air - radios were sitting unused - 
what a shame.

I love the Borger's group way of putting up the antennas - anyone know where 
we can borrow a hydraulic man lift for a weekend??  Sure beats climbing 
ladders and jury rigging attachments to goal posts - which worked well BTW, 
just was hard to fashion the right attachments.  It's something to work on 
for next year - constantly need to improve and I will get out the metal 
bender and welder and make some proper attachments for the club's push up 
mast that Bill Tynan has.

A special thanks to Gale Heise who sold me the really nice Yaesu FT-450AT. 
It was in use from the first minutes of the beginning of field day and it 
was the last radio taken off the air.  Now to build a "Go Box" for it like 
Jeff Lavender has.  His Go Box is "lift the top, connect power and an 
antenna and you are on the air".
