Here is an auction for what appears to be a "new old stock" Heil Proset Plus Headset. It is the same as the 3 sets that I had at Field Day and it is regarded as one of the best headsets available (except that they were so expensive new, that Heil discontinued them - about $279.00 new 5+ years ago). They are the headsets with the 2 microphone elements in the mic that allow you to switch from a limited frequency range DX element that helps in a pile up to a full range Rag-Chew element so you sound like yourself to your friends. They also have a phase reversal switch in the headphones that to quote Heil:
" Pro Set now includes Heil Sound's exclusive phase reversal technology, which allows the user to "move" the incoming signal by engaging the phase-reversal switch; this creates a unique spatial widening sound that can, in some situations, significantly improve copy in a tough DX pile-up."
I love my ProSet Plus headset. To use them on your radio, you will have to get the proper adaptor from Heil, Ebay, or from DX Engineering, et al to add in Push To Talk (either foot control or hand control) as unfortunately radio manufacturers have never decided on a common standardized microphone connector. For instance, Yaesu alone uses 3 different microphone connectors on their various rigs. I have a FT-4700RH (older UHF/VHF rig) that uses an 8 pin connector and the Yaesu FT-450AT which uses the same modular (think telelphone type connector) that the FT-897 does. The FT-857 and the FT-817 use different connectors altogether. I am clueless (about many things :-) ) as to what the FT-1000 connecter is - (4 pin I think). Go Figure!! So you get a different adaptor for each of your rigs and then use the same headset on each. Brilliant idea Bob Heil - at least someone is/was thinking.

If I needed another headset I would be competing with you on this auction. Shipping on this one from Canada is costly, but I suspect that the total price plus shipping (based on other sales I have seen recently) will be about $120-140.00. That is $50.00 +/- less than new Heil Headsets without the double mic element sell for on line from DX Engineering, etc currently.
