Gary/Jeff,
What happened to the old rule where if you started set up before the contest
start you couldn't operate the whole contest, I think you had to stop about
4 hours early. Is their a penalty for early set up? The big boys used to
have a special station that they could get on in less than five minutes so
they could start making FD QSO's right away while the rest of the club got
the rest of the stations on the air. Note that this was in the days before
solid state transceivers and quick charge batteries. It involved a real
radios (100 pound class!) and real generator or a mobile HF station with a
temporary antenna. The whole point was that you wouldn't have advance
notice of a disaster so you shouldn't start set up early. Is this another
example of the League altering reality to increase participation and their
bottom line?
