AD5UZ and I went to a swap fest the first weekend this past June and I found an icom ic-290a all mode 2 meter. The gentleman that I bought the radio from told me that the vfo would only go in one direction and today it is very hard to find parts for the radio but I found the rotary encoder at the ICOM service center in Washington state and also I bought a com-spec ss64 tone board for the radio. At the ICOM service center they told me of a gentleman his name is Kuni and his businesses is called Comtek and his call sign is W7JV. This man knows his ICOM radio so if anybody is having problems with their ICOM radio I would suggest this gentleman and his prices are very good. It did not take him very long to fix the radio it just took longer to get the radio up there and back. The reason why I'm putting this on the reflector is that it is so hard to find a reliable person to work on radios today. So if you have an Icom radio and you're having trouble with it I would definitely give this gentleman a try I am very pleased with his work also he will stay in contact with you whether e-mail or by phone. I just thought I'd pass this information along.
